It's Just Smoke

There are seasons when the enemy fills the air with smoke. Not because he's winning, but because if he can cloud your vision, he can convince you to surrender before you ever see what God is doing. The smoke says, "It's over." Heaven says, "Keep walking." The smoke says, "Nothing is changing." Heaven whispers, "Everything is being prepared." We must be careful not to let what we currently see become what we believe. Sight is a terrible master when God has already spoken.

I've come to believe that some of God's greatest breakthroughs are hidden behind the greatest resistance. The closer we get to what He has promised, the thicker the smoke seems to become. Delays grow longer. Prayers feel quieter. Doors appear shut. Our emotions begin interpreting circumstances as truth. Yet God has never asked His people to follow what they see. He has always asked them to follow His voice.

Joshua and Israel walked around Jericho for six days without a single visible sign that anything was happening. Every lap looked exactly like the one before it. The walls were just as tall. The city was just as secure. To the natural eye, it appeared foolish. But every step of obedience was moving heaven's timetable closer to its appointed moment. The walls didn't begin to crumble on day three or crack on day six. They stood until the exact moment God had ordained, and then in an instant what looked impossible became history.

I wonder how many promises are abandoned one lap too soon. How many dreams are buried because the smoke convinced us that delay meant denial? The enemy cannot cancel what God has spoken, but he will do everything possible to make you believe God has forgotten. Discouragement is often his final attempt before breakthrough. If he cannot defeat your calling, he'll try to exhaust your faith.

The Kingdom of God is filled with unseen work. Seeds grow in darkness before they ever break the surface. Babies are formed in hidden places before the world celebrates their arrival. Even Jesus spent thirty hidden years preparing for three public years of ministry. Heaven has never been intimidated by hidden seasons. Why should we be?

Perhaps the greatest victory in this season is not seeing the breakthrough. Perhaps it is refusing to agree with the smoke. Faith declares that God's Word is more real than today's circumstances. Hope continues walking when emotions are screaming to quit. Obedience keeps taking the next step even when nothing around us seems to affirm it.

If you feel surrounded by smoke today, don't assume you're lost. You may simply be standing on the edge of something the enemy desperately hopes you'll never see. Keep praying. Keep obeying. Keep worshipping. Keep building. Keep believing. The smoke will clear. The walls will fall. The promise will stand exactly where God said it would. And one day you'll look back and realize that while you thought nothing was happening, Heaven had been moving every step of the way.
